Empowering people with short stature , Creating Big Change

Through advocacy, education, and community support, we’re building a more inclusive Rwanda for people with short stature

Program Impact

Through these programs, RULP has grown from 16 members in 2015 to over 367 members across 8 districts of Rwanda today. We continue to expand our reach and impact to empower more people with short stature across the country.

Social and Economic Empowerment

We help people with short stature access poverty reduction programs and develop skills for financial independence.

Key achievements:

  • Trained over 30 members in vocational skills like hairdressing and soap making
  • Supported the creation of 4 small businesses run by people with short stature
  • Provided 30 members with goats to improve agricultural productivity

Access to Education

We advocate for inclusive education and provide support for people with short stature to attend school and vocational training.

Recent initiatives:

  • Conducted accessibility assessments of vocational training centers
  • Subsidized school fees and materials for 16 members to attend vocational courses
  • Advocating for adaptations to make classrooms more accessible

Health Services Access

We work to improve healthcare access and raise awareness of the specific health needs of people with short stature.

Ongoing projects:

  • Advocating to include dwarfism in national health policies
  • Training on sexual and reproductive health rights for women and girls with short stature
  • Assessing accessibility of health centers for people with short stature.

Organizational Development

We are continually working to strengthen RULP as an organization to better serve our members.

Recent activities:

  • Developed key organizational policies and procedures
  • Trained staff and board members on topics like resource mobilization and safeguarding
  • Created a new strategic plan to guide our work.
